Ken, that is exactly what Roeder saw in his studies--with two large predators in a confined space. In nature, it is much more uncommon.

you know I have mated a few mantis and only one of those males has ever made it away with his life without my intervention. Granted the females don't go for the head evertime they will eat just about any part they can get ahold of usually! Had one male hanging on for dear life once cause he knew if he let go of her he was a goner. Had finally pry him off her.

Well...there's more than a few jokes out there just waiting to be written about this!

I feel bad for the little mantid-dude in the link who got his left eye chewed off. I hope for his saje she was as hot as Isabella Rossellini!

I think it was Eric Idle who said that God gave males brains and penises but only enough blood to operate one at a time? :)

Inaccuracy is an unfortunate occupational hazard in fiction, by nature of being fiction. There has been a lot of headway in recent years to try to bring some authenticity to it, but unfortunately some myths are still propagated, either by oversight, or by design.

So far as getting details accurate, Isabella Rossellini's credentials don't include "scientist" that I'm aware of, so in the research phase of the creative process, there comes a point where she has to give up and say "OK, I've got enough now."

The ancient Romans used to think that the queen bee was a king. We know better now, of course. But still, no one would advocate re-writing Virgil.

Hopefully, some day, you'll be able to nit-pick the scientific inaccuracies of one of my works. I'll send you an autographed copy. :)
