Awesome Cicada Movie

If you liked the little loop I had a while back showing a cicada emerging, you’ll love this–a neat little 6 minute film about the Cicada Life Cycle!

Amazing photography!

Indiana University also has a little explanatory slide show you can click through that explains the crazy cicada life cycle.

The University of Michigan also has an excellent Cicada page.

This photo is one I took during 2004’s emergence near Ann Arbor.

What a great film! Such fascinating creatures. I had no idea they emerged from the ground as nymphs! Also loved the Enya music, helping the whole cycle seem romantic. Other music could have made it feel quite different.

Have you checked out the “jakvid” on YouTube called “Cicada sings”? I waited a long time to record one act from beginning to end, but it was worth it. Please comment after you listen. The voice of authority. It is, by the way, the most popular jakvid. Most of the rest are mere human poets reading their work.
