A new ad campaign from Raid

I saw this beautiful ad–full size here–and while the art work is lovely, I’m really puzzled. Are they advertising a product to kill moths in your closets and on clothes?
The ad agency is from Bucharest, Romania, so I’m not sure if this is meant to run in the US or not.  The Raid website does [...]

Two little victories

My last post was such a downer, I hate leaving it on the top of my blog while I’m away, so here’s something happier to bump it a bit lower while I try to get caught up at work.  This photo illustrates how deeply I need to dive into my work–and is insanely cute.
Victory #1:

I can’t brain today

I’m going to take a little off-line break until this weekend–I’m frazzled, behind in my work, my neck is in spasm, and people online are starting to seriously piss me off.
Also, the world is full of sick f**Ks.
Have a pretty picture while I’m gone!

I need a day off

This is pretty much what I look like today. I’ll be back tomorrow (hopefully).
Thanks to BackPackphotography for the photo!

Project Steve

From a press release from the National Center for Science Education:
“With the addition of Steven K. Nordeen on September 5, 2008, NCSE’s Project Steve attained its 900th signatory — and the Steveometer is now at 930.  A tongue-in-cheek parody of a long-standing creationist tradition of amassing lists of “scientists who doubt evolution” or “scientists who [...]

I’m in love with satellite radio

So, my rental car had Sirius Radio in it….and I’m totally in love.  I don’t listen to pop music at all, and I had multiple channels of classical, blues, and jazz to choose from.
I could flip between Violent Femmes, Mingus, John Lee Hooker, Reggaeton, and Mendelssohn with just a touch of a button. I lost [...]

Pretty Picture Friday

I’m still off at a meeting, so here’s a photo of where I am. Alas, I’m inside most of the day learning….stuff.

You can find more pictures in my Photostream.

How to inspect your hotel room for bed bugs

I thought I would make use of my travel time to put together a new Ask An Entomologist post: a little primer on how to check your hotel room to see if there are bedbugs.
It may just be because I go to entomology conferences where there are lots of presentations about bedbugs in hotels, but [...]

September Garden Report

As I mentioned a week or so ago, I’m off into the wilderness again–this time to the Black Rock Forest in NY.  I’ll be attending the OBFS Annual Meeting from the 16th to the 21st.  It’s going to be really pretty, and there will be nice people, but I’d much rather be home enjoying the [...]
