In North Africa and Southeast Asia, the rhinoceros beetle is a threat to coconut and date palm trees. Rhino beetles are also huge, strong, and really nifty!

A recent study isolated the Rhino’s pheromones, and hopes to allow control of the beetles by luring horny male beetles to their death.  (This is a type of control called mating disruption.)
